We strolled around the JIA by OCK event for your next Bali shopping!

We had the pleasure of enjoying a well crafted event in Bali the first weekend of July. As you might come to the island for your holiday, we thought we would share our best findings for you to shop around for souvenirs.

For more than two years, the covid-19 virus stopped us from enjoying events. We are not totally in the clear about  it (if ever), but it is nice to enjoy socialising again in various events.

This was particularly true at Plataran Canggu, where Ong Ceng Kuang (OCK) organised “JIA by OCK” with plenty of amazing curated kiosks along with great food and drinks.

We selected 6 artisans who we loved, but there were many more who would have deserved to be in this article. We just couldn’t list them all!

Hard not to start this list by highlighting the work of JIA event organisers' duo Budiman Ong and Rudi Winata. Their collection is extensive, but they are famed for their stunning lampshades made from ubiquitous zippers. They now work with world renowned architects such as Alexis Dornier.

We use them everyday, and yet we often disregard the quality of our towels. Norm Home made sure we do not thanks to their 100% cotton premium bath and face towels. Their indigenous stylish multi-colored stripes motifs would be a perfect gift to bring home.

It is very hard to find what to bring to our relatives' babies. These will do! Their wooden animal pull toys were designed for babies and toddlers. They are handmade from up-cycled teak wood with no chemical finish. Naturally polished with their own food-grade wood balm, they are safe as a baby's teething toy.

As wood lovers, we of course noticed these well made items made by fellow handcrafters Kevin and Theresia, who are both Indonesian.artists. As modernization speeds ahead, let’s take time to appreciate the fine, hand-crafted elements in our home!

It is a bit tricky to shop for ceramic while travelling, but that’s what good packaging is for right? Anyway you wouldn”t be able to resist getting a couple of items from Kevala, who collaborated with JIA to created this particularly stunning riak set collection.

Their terrazzo planters and pencil holders have Round, Hexagonal and Square shapes. But most importantly, they come in various attractive colors! Perfect to start your succulent collection for example or to make your desk tidy

You couldn’t attend the market? We visited but would have loved to add I-Rewood reclaimed wood products to their curated kiosks! New chance in December said the organisers.

But you can visit the JIA shop at any time and since we didn’t have enough of the market itself, that’s what we did!
