Reclaimed Borneo Ironwood decking
Borneo ironwood, known locally as Ulin, is a marvellous wood. It's uncommonly slow growth rate at less than 0.5mm a year results in a highly compact timber ideal for outdoor applications. Ulin heartwood has a Class 1 natural durability above and in-ground rating, and is prized for its natural resistance rot, decay, termites and weathering. It has long been used by Kalimantan Dayak communities in traditional house construction as well as for bridges and roads. Ulin is endemic to only a few places in Southeast Asia with the majority of remaining distribution limited to Borneo island. Ulin trees can live to be more than 1,000 years old. Kaltimber's Ulin, known as the best hardwood 100% recycled in the market comes from disused structures in Kalimantan including houses, warehouses, bridges, roads, jetties and other structures. This material yields a gorgeous and long-lasting decking product.

It can serve many functions, and improve the appearance of the outdoor living area while being a pleasure to walk on bare feet. This is especially true if the lumber has been through a professional millwork groove-and-groove, staining and sanding process. This feeling will also be enhanced by proper use of hidden fasteners preventing warp.
Another common method of deck construction will use eased edges decking board either wide or narrow with deck screws and framing also preventing warping and cupping.
However, the choice of deck boards must be carefully evaluated in order to ensure the best potential longevity for the decking. As a matter of facts, all decking materials are important for your investment to bring the best rewards, especially when it comes to the time past the original warranties. Other things to consider is to ensure that wood decking installers will pay close attention to plank joist spacing.
With respect to hardwood decking, the choice of timber needs to be looked at according to the surrounding environment. The best decking will be built while keeping in mind the potential presence of termite, rot and insects as well as local weather conditions. A popular choice in North America is the IPE deck, a very dense species, making it one of the most durable woods in the world. His southeast Asia counterpart is Ulin lumber, commonly called Ironwood. Both choices offer a low deck maintenance, thus, an initial cost more than compensated over time. No need of yearly deck cleaner, re-sanding and re-oiling on your decking in ironwood.
Many woods are available both new treated wood kiln-dried or salvaged wood. List include pine, yellow pine, redwood, cedar, red cedar, teak, Douglas-fir, mahogany, chestnut and many other species.
