Ulin, also known as Borneo ironwood, is a dense tropical hardwood native to Borneo and valued for its natural durability, strength and resistance to termites and decay. These characteristics make it particularly suitable for long-lasting solid hardwood flooring in tropical environments.

Kaltimber manufactures flooring from reclaimed Ulin recovered from existing Indonesian structures such as buildings, bridges and other dismantled constructions. The timber is carefully selected and remilled in Bali to create solid reclaimed flooring with natural variation, character and a distinctive architectural appearance.

What thicknesses are available?

Kaltimber commonly produces reclaimed Ulin flooring in 18 mm and 15 mm thicknesses.

18 mm flooring is suitable for applications where boards are installed over battens or joists.

15 mm flooring can be used for applications where boards are installed directly onto a suitable prepared subfloor using an appropriate adhesive system.

The correct specification depends on the project and installation method.

What widths and lengths are available?

Reclaimed Ulin flooring can be supplied in uniform or varied widths.

Typical narrow widths are approximately 70–80 mm, while wider boards are approximately 140–150 mm.

Lengths can be supplied as random lengths from approximately 60 to 400 cm, incremental lengths, or fixed lengths according to project requirements.

Can reclaimed Ulin be used for parquet, herringbone or chevron flooring?
