Triple Drip Efffect with Third La Niña in a row!

If you feel that rain hasn’t stopped, or that the drought was very long this year, hold tight, because a third La Niña is underway! Referred by many as the “Triple Drip Effect”, it is now confirmed that the world will see its third La Niña effect in…three years.

Watch a great explanation

A normal weather pattern, but with serious implications

As reminders by a WMO, the UN World Meteorological Agency , “La Niña refers to the large-scale cooling of the ocean surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean, coupled with changes in the tropical atmospheric circulation, namely winds, pressure and rainfall -- A; B it changes the weather pattern worldwide with the implication on society, humans and people.”

“Some people will see drier weather; others will face more floods” , reports NPR journalist Joe Hernandez.

Heavy flood in East Kalimantan - Indonesia

Not an unusual phenomenon

Three phenomena in a row is not unheard of, but the last time we had such an occurrence was a century ago Triple La Niñas have also occurred in, for example, 1973–1976 and 1998–2001. Since then however, we have started to see the impact of human activity on the planet and how climate change coupled with La Niña can be disastrous.

Hold Tight for….El Nino?

The human impact on the planet has been tremendous, so the consequences are hard to predict. What we can guess however, is that high density disaster floods will happen. Water catchments are already full from 2 similar weather patterns, so soils are sodden.

It is also possible that three El Niño will happen, same like after the 1998-2001 La Niña was followed by three years of El Niño between 2014 and 2016. Consequences could also be challenging in relation to climate change.
